Will vs. going to

WRONG: I will visit London next month. (if it’s already planned)
RIGHT: I’m going to visit London next month.

For expressing the future, we can use both will and going to. But there’s a difference:

We use going to when we talk about an intention, a plan we’ve already made, or when there’s clear evidence something will happen.

  • I’m going to study abroad next year.
  • It’s 5:2. They are going to win.

We use will when there’s no plan or evidence, but only a belief, a spontaneous decision, or something we decide in the moment.

  • I think I will have the salad.
  • Wait! I will help you with your bags.

Short conversation:

A: I will become famous very soon.
B: Do you have a plan, or are you just being a little delulu?

A: Okay… I’m going to upload my first song tomorrow.
