At vs. On vs. In Easter

WRONG: I am visiting my grandma in Easter time.
RIGHT: I am visiting my grandma at Easter time.

Many Czech learners struggle with using the right preposition when talking about Easter. A common mistake is saying in Easter — but this phrase doesn’t exist in English!

The rule:

at Easter – when talking about the Easter period in general. We usually travel at Easter. Shops are closed at Easter.

on Easter (Sunday/Monday) – when referring to a specific day. We have a big lunch on Easter Sunday. I got lots of chocolate on Easter Monday!

in Easter – incorrect! It’s a direct translation from Czech o Velikonocích, but it doesn’t work in English.

W: I’m visiting my grandma in Easter time.

R: I’m visiting my grandma at Easter time.
